Your first visit to our state-of-the-art pediatric dental clinic in Waukee may include:
Regular dental exams for children are an important part of preventative healthcare. During the first exam, Dr. Hammond and staff might place your child on an exam chair or have you hold your child on your lap. She will evaluate your child’s dentition and discuss your child’s oral habits and other needs. Dr. Hammond will also introduce your child to the office and familiarize your family with our facility.
At this initial dental appointment, your child’s teeth may be polished and stains and deposits may be removed by gentle scrubbing. Proper cleaning techniques will be demonstrated, hard and soft tissue will be examined and the need for fluoride will be assessed. She will also determine which radiographs (x-rays) are needed and age appropriate.
Dental x-rays allow Dr. Hammond to see detailed images of your child’s mouth, which are then used to diagnose any problems not visible during the exam. Radiation exposure from the digital x-rays used in our office is especially low.
Dr. Hammond will thoroughly review her treatment recommendations for your child and will be happy to discuss any concerns you might have.
